Le Joncas: an adventure, discovery and initiation course!

The Joncas climbing site is a rare gem for starting out in rock climbing and taking your first steps into the vertical world!

Located 40 minutes from Montpellier and near the commune of Montpeyroux, this site is recent, having been equipped in 2014. There are several routes on different sides of the canyon. You can climb there throughout the seasons, depending on the desired exposure.

It is a perfect place for both an introduction to climbing and for improving your skills. The limestone is compact and of very high quality. The style is unique to the location, featuring small holds and fairly short, technical routes. It is not uncommon to have to think a bit on a 5b grade at Joncas! Levels range from 4b to 8c+ for the experts. The setting is magnificent, as you climb on both sides of a dry canyon. It is not unusual to see water flowing after heavy rains. We have two orientations, North-East and South-West, for different times of the year. Some very beautiful introductory routes on the South side allow for very pleasant winter climbing.

Naturéo Sport & Aventure offers a 3-hour tour of this geological wonder, divided between adventure courses and introductory climbing. This is a fun outing perfectly suited for families, groups, or organizations.

DISCOVERY // INITATION

Description

The adventure course is defined by a progression through the dry canyon via cordata. You will pass through a mini cave, followed by an introduction to a 10m abseil. A 40m long zipline, 20m high, is planned for a bit more excitement. No workshop is mandatory, but they are highly recommended to make the most of your day!

After these aerial crossings, the via cordata progression allows us to climb back up the entire dry canyon while admiring the basins carved by ancient water passages over the last millennia. At the exit, on the North face, we will set up our base camp for the second part of the activity: an introduction to rock climbing. You will test yourself by climbing using only the natural holds offered by the Joncas cliffs. You will be roped up with a belayer. This part of the activity is done in pairs. After demonstrations of belaying, climbing, and descending on a rope, you will be ready to tackle as many routes as possible in the sector!

The return is made by finishing the loop with a 10-minute climb up the sides of the canyon.
